U.S. forces strike Iranian rocket launchers on the Strait of Hormuz
On Sunday, U.S. forces struck Iranian rocket launchers on the island of Larak in the Strait of Hormuz. According to Capt. Tim Hawkins, a spokesperson for U.S. Central Command, forces with the Revolutionary Guard Corps had been observed preparing to launch rockets with sea mines into the strait. The U.S. military had only recently completed efforts to clear sea mines from the strait’s international shipping routes. Iranian state media reported that two people were killed in the U.S. attack on Larak, with several others wounded. The Revolutionary Guard stated that several of their fighters and compatriots had been martyred and injured.
By Tuesday, the conflict had expanded. U.S. strikes hit a home hosting a wedding in Kuhestak in southern Iran. Ahmad Nafisi, the deputy governor of Hormozgan Province, told Iranian state television that the strike killed five people, including a child, and wounded at least 68 others. Ebrahim Azizi, chairman of the Iranian parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, responded on X by asserting that these crimes would undoubtedly be met with retribution. Capt. Hawkins stated that U.S. Central Command is aware of the reports of civilian casualties but noted they originated from Iranian state media.
Iran launched ballistic missiles at Jordan
Following the U.S. attacks, Iran launched ballistic missiles at Jordan. The Iranian Revolutionary Guard claimed to have targeted a U.S. base along Jordan’s Gulf of Aqaba coast. Separately, Iran also claimed to have targeted U.S. personnel at an air base in the UAE and shot down an American drone over the Strait of Hormuz. While Abu Dhabi confirmed intercepting a drone over its waters, it dismissed claims that the Al Minhad Air Base had been targeted as “baseless.”

President Donald Trump, speaking to Fox News in a phone call, offered further details on the U.S. operation, stating that American forces had struck Iran’s radars. Trump explained to Fox that Iranian forces had attempted to rebuild their radar system because they were left blind, and that the U.S. had waited until the construction was nearly complete before destroying it. Regarding the Iranian missile response, Trump claimed that all missiles fired at U.S. forces had been shot down, except for one that was determined not to pose a threat.
The president issued a stark warning on social media, declaring that if the failed nation of Iran were to retaliate for this highly justified attack, they would be struck again with significantly greater force, though he noted that an even larger potential attack remained in reserve. This followed earlier comments in which Trump described Iran as a “Failed Nation,” claiming its military was decimated, its finances were crumbling, and its leadership was in complete disarray and unable to properly represent the country.
Despite the escalation, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian called for dialogue during a summit in Kyrgyzstan. Pezeshkian stated that they continue to strive for a path of agreement and understanding, and expressed his belief that continuing the war is in neither their interest nor that of the region, adding that the solution to the existing problems lies in dialogue and cooperation. However, Gen. Hossein Mohebi, a spokesperson for the Revolutionary Guard, characterized the Sunday attack as a fatal mistake made by the Trump regime during the economic war, promising that the enemy would pay the consequences militarily and economically.
The conflict has placed the U.S. administration in a complex position. While Trump had recently pivoted toward economic sanctions, the administration is reportedly weighing diminished munitions stockpiles after months of war, raising concerns about U.S. military readiness in other parts of the globe. Trump noted last week that he is “not in a hurry” to return to the negotiating table. The U.S. previously held off on strikes on Aug. 1 at the urging of Gulf allies, including Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.
