The ceremony took place on Monday afternoon, where Jury President Maggie Gyllenhaal paid tribute to the brilliant and brave
Oscar-winning actress. Before Burstyn took the stage, Gyllenhaal delivered a message on her behalf, informing the audience that Burstyn recently took a fall.
Gyllenhaal noted that Burstyn
Clad in a vibrant yellow gown and using a walker, Burstyn was greeted with a heartfelt, minutes-long standing ovation. The emotional reception caused Burstyn to cry and wipe away tears with a tissue. You’re making me cry!
she told the crowd.

During her acceptance speech, Burstyn placed the Golden Lion among her top honors, stating that Burstyn’s career milestones include becoming the third woman in history in 1975 to win both a Tony Award and an Academy Award in the same year for her work in the Broadway production Same Time, Next Year
and the film 『アリスはここにいない』. For the latter, she also earned a BAFTA for Best Actress and a Golden Globe nomination. She became a so-called triple crown winner
when she received her first Emmy for a guest appearance on Law & Order: SVU
(2009).
Burstyn shared a story from the set of Martin Scorsese’s 1974 romantic dramedy 『アリスはここにいない』, describing a terrifying nighttime driving scene. She recalled driving up a mountain with a 車の右側に崖の大きな断崖絶壁がある状況を述べ、while Scorsese, the cinematographer, and the camera operator were positioned on the hood of the car, blocking her view. She managed the scene by following the white line in the middle of the two-way road. Burstyn used this memory to express her hopes for the United States, stating that
The Golden Lion presentation occurred during the premiere of Gyllenhaal’s short film “Flesh Impact.” The project originated when Amy Marentic, the chief marketing officer of the luxury car company Genesis, approached Gyllenhaal about creating something around what would have been Marilyn Monroe’s 100th birthday in June.

Gyllenhaal asked for a weekend to think about it, and landed on Marilyn, at 100, Gyllenhaal stated that Burstyn was the first actor she thought of, adding that Burstynにとって、物事を新しい視点から考える機会になるのではないかという予感がしたと述べた。Burstyn noted that she and Gyllenhaal shared a similar approach to their work, stating that
Burstyn reflected on the role, noting that while she never met Monroe, who died at 36, they shared a massage therapist. This therapist told Burstyn that she was actually quite like Monroe and lent her an old book called The Thinking Body,
which had some treasures like old receipts inside.
Burstyn observed that モンローはマリリン・モンローというコンセプト全体を自ら作り上げ、それを演じていたのだと述べ、recognizing that the persona was something Monroe created. Burstyn recalled one specific memory of seeing Monroe in a nightclub, where Monroe nodded at her.
Reflecting on the production of the short, Burstyn noted the difference in set demographics compared to the start of her career.
In addition to “Flesh Impact,” Burstyn is in Venice with Kornél Mundruczó’s “Place to Be.” Her co-stars in that film, Taika Waititi, Pamela Anderson, and Murray Bartlett, were also in attendance at the event. During the ceremony, Gyllenhaal honored Burstyn’s diverse body of work, citing her roles as Lois Farrow in The Last Picture Show,
Alice Hyatt in 『アリスはここにいない』, Edna Mae McCauley in “Resurrection,Chris MacNeil in
The Exorcist,and Sarah Goldfarb in
Requiem for a Dream.”
