The Detroit Lions have established their initial 53-man roster for the 2026 season. While the team continues to maneuver players around injury lists and fill out their practice squad, the current group represents the core the organization will rely upon to compete for the Lombardi Trophy in 2026. The franchise faced a deadline of 6 p.m. on Sunday to reduce their roster from 91 players to the league-mandated 53-man limit.

2026年開幕ロースターの全容と編成方針

The initial roster includes specific designations for players managing injuries or non-football related status. The following players have been placed on reserve lists as the team prepares for the regular season:

  • IR to return: C Cade Mays
  • Non-Football Injury/reserve: OT Giovanni Manu
  • PUP/reserve list: Kerby Joseph, Brian Branch

The roster reduction process included several notable cuts, including 2026 NFL Draft selection Tyre West. A Tifton, Georgia native, West was selected in the seventh round (222nd overall). Despite a collegiate career at Tennessee that saw him record 64 tackles, 20 tackles for loss, 10 sacks, and two forced fumbles across 47 games, he underwhelmed during Training Camp. The emergence of young players like Skyler Gill-Howard and Ahmed Hassanein contributed to West becoming one of Detroit’s first cuts.

Additionally, the Lions released DL Myles Adams. Adams, originally from Arlington, TX, previously played at Rice before stints with the Carolina Panthers and Seattle Seahawks. Since joining the Lions in November 2024, he has amassed 34 tackles, two sacks, and one pass deflection in his NFL career. Earlier in the process, the team also cut LB Troy Reeder and TE Zach Horton.

ベテランレシーバーの放出と新たな期待

The team made several surprising moves to reach the 53-man limit, including the release of veteran slot receiver Greg Dortch. Dortch brought three seasons of experience with new Lions offensive coordinator Drew Petzing from their time together in Arizona and was expected to handle punt return duties while serving as the No. 4 receiver. Conversely, tight end Jackson Meeks secured a spot on the roster after successfully transitioning from the receiver position.

シーズン開幕に向けた監督の評価

Lions head coach Dan Campbell oversaw the final evaluation process following the team’s preseason win over the Indianapolis Colts. Campbell indicated that he planned to rewatch the game film and meet with general manager Brad Holmes early Sunday to finalize the roster reductions. As the team moves forward, they remain open to adding players released by other clubs.
