英国の小売業者は、生活費の圧力が消費者に打撃を与え続けたため、1月を通じて苦戦した。
英国小売業コンソーシアムの新たなデータによると、1月の店舗での支出は前年同月比1.2％増にとどまり、2023年1月に記録した4.2％から大幅に鈍化した。
12月のインフレ率は4％で推移しており、これは販売量の減少を示している。
BRCはまた、人々が食料品以外の品目を減らし、1月までの3カ月間で支出が1.8％減少したと報告している。
食品販売 1月までの3カ月間で前年比6.3％増と、2023年1月の8％増より鈍化した。

今朝バークレイズが発表した別の統計は、先月の支出が低かったことを裏付けており、1月の消費者カード支出は前年比3.1%増加したが、これは現在の主要インフレ率である4%を下回っている。
