According to journalist Velile Mnyandu of SABC Sport in South Africa, Tete was shot Friday evening local time in front of his house at NU17 while returning from the gym. Brigadier Nobuntu Gantana, a spokesperson from Eastern Cape police, confirmed that the shooting occurred on Friday night at around 6:30 p.m. Tete was arriving at his house in the Mdantsane township, Eastern Cape province, when two men in balaclavas got out of a car and shot him.
また、車内に同乗していた27歳の女性も複数回銃撃され、病院に搬送されて治療を受けています。

Tete fought in 34 matches over the course of his career, finishing with 29 victories, including 22 knockouts, four defeats and one no contest. He held world title belts in the WBF flyweight category from 2007-2008. His breakthrough was in 2014 when he defeated Teiru Kinoshita on points in Japan to win the IBF junior-bantamweight title, and later won the bantamweight title in 2017. He also held the WBO interim title before becoming a recognised world champion, successfully defending his title three times before losing to John Riel Casimero in late 2019. Tete beat Liverpool’s Paul Butler in 2015 in one of the eight times he fought in the United Kingdom. He also held the Guinness world record for the fastest knockout in a title fight, recording an 11-second knockout with the first punch of the 2017 world title fight against Siboniso Gonya.
Tete was also one of the eight competitors in the single-elimination World Boxing Super Series from 2018-2019 at bantamweight, and after winning in the quarterfinals, he was scheduled to face Nonito Donaire in the semifinals in April of 2019, but had to pull out of the fight due to a shoulder injury. His last appearance came in July 2022, when he beat Britain’s Jason Cunningham in the fourth round at London’s Wembley Arena, United Kingdom, but a subsequent positive test for the anabolic steroid stanozolol saw the result overturned and ruled a no contest. Tete was handed a four-year suspension by the UK Anti-Doping Agency in August of 2023, which ended on July 29, 2026 — less than one month before his death. Tete consistently denied knowingly taking the banned substance. After his death, manager Mla Tengimfene confirmed he had been training for a comeback, and according to Gayton McKenzie, the boxer believed that he still had something to give his country. Tete was reportedly preparing for a return bout on Sunday, November 29, according to Ink Sport.
