United Airlines has announced its largest international network expansion in company history, adding 10 new international cities and three new routes across Europe and Asia for summer 2027. The historic route drop, revealed at Newark Liberty International Airport, features extensive deployment of the new Airbus A321XLR aircraft.

The Chicago-based carrier on Tuesday revealed its highly anticipated list of new destinations for next summer. United’s annual “route drop” includes America’s first nonstop flights to Slovenia and Luxembourg, in Europe, alongside an all-new destination in Japan, islands in Spain, Portugal, and Italy, and service to two French cities previously unreachable without a layover. In all, it comprises 10 new international destinations and 13 new routes for United in 2027.

New nonstop flights include destinations such as Okinawa, Japan; Toulouse, France; Luxembourg City, Luxembourg; Marseille, France; Ibiza, Spain; Valencia, Spain; Terceira, Portugal; Ljubljana, Slovenia; Olbia (Sardinia), Italy; and Catania (Sicily), Italy. At the same time, the airline debuted its newest international aircraft—the ‘Born to Explore’ A321XLR—which will fly to some of these new cities. The A321XLR features lie-flat seats in United Polaris and Economy Plus seats with extra elbow room across an open middle seat.

United builds on its lead as the largest carrier across the Atlantic and Pacific with new flights from Los Angeles to Osaka, Japan; Washington, D.C. to Milan, Italy; and Denver to Paris, France; while planning to resume flights from San Francisco to Tel Aviv, Israel. United has added nearly 60 new international destinations to its route map in the past decade, cementing its position as the world’s leading global airline. As the world’s largest airline, United now flies to more than 160 international destinations.

Beginning as early as March 2027, United will fly to the 10 new international cities across Europe and Asia, with flights originating from its hubs in San Francisco, Washington, D.C., and Newark, N.J. The airline currently flies to more international destinations than any other U.S. carrier.

The first of the new services is scheduled to begin on March 27, 2027, when United launches three weekly flights between San Francisco and Okinawa using a Boeing 777-200ER. Newark will receive the largest share of the expansion, with eight new destinations across Europe. Daily flights from Newark to Luxembourg will begin on April 2, followed by four weekly flights to Ljubljana from May 12. United will then launch three weekly flights to Olbia in Sardinia on May 27 and four weekly services to Catania in Sicily the following day.

The carrier will also connect Newark with Ibiza four times per week from May 31, Valencia three times weekly from June 2, and Marseille daily from June 4. Additionally, flights between Washington Dulles and Toulouse will begin as a daily service operated by the Airbus A321XLR, and three weekly flights between Newark and Terceira will start on June 9 using a Boeing 737 Max 8.

Eight of the new destinations would be served from United’s New York-area hub, and five of the new city pairs are assigned to the Airbus A321XLR. United stated that tickets for all 10 new destinations were available through its website and app.
