Philadelphia Eagles running back Ja’Quinden Jackson suffered a scary injury on the opening kickoff against the New England Patriots in a preseason game on August 22, 2026, at Gillette Stadium. Medical personnel placed him in an ambulance, but the Eagles later confirmed he had strength and movement in all extremities.

In a scary scene at Gillette Stadium on Saturday, Philadelphia Eagles running back Ja’Quinden Jackson lay motionless on the field following the opening kickoff against the New England Patriots. Medical personnel placed Jackson on a stretcher and took him away from the field in an ambulance. The Eagles announced shortly after that Jackson had strength and movement in all of his extremities and was being taken to a local hospital for further evaluation.

Jackson’s agent, Damien Butler of CMV Sports, issued a statement regarding Jackson’s status:

The injury occurred on the opening kickoff, with the Eagles kicking to the Patriots. Jackson was part of Philadelphia’s kickoff team and was credited with the tackle on Patriots return man Lan Larison. It appeared that Larison’s knee hit Jackson’s head as the latter attempted to make the tackle. Jackson appeared to have an immediate fencing response, extending both of his arms.

As Jackson was being tended to, the Eagles sideline emptied onto the field to surround the running back. He eventually exited the field to cheers from the Foxborough crowd.

Jackson signed with the Eagles less than two weeks ago, after he was released by the Jacksonville Jaguars. He entered the league as an undrafted free agent in 2025, signing with the Jaguars following a collegiate career that included three stops.

Further Patriots to comment on the injury include Kyle Williams, Behren Morton, Nick DeGennaro and Efton Chism.

Kyle Williams

Patriots backup quarterback Tommy DeVito tossed a 69-yard touchdown pass to Kyle Williams and New England beat Philadelphia 24-21 in the preseason game Saturday night.

Eagles third-string quarterback Tanner McKee threw two touchdown passes, including a go-ahead 20-yard toss to Carson Steele with 3:39 to play. Patriots third-stringer Behren Morton responded by leading a 73-yard drive, capped by a 37-yard TD pass to Nick DeGennaro. Projected starters for both teams sat out after participating in two days of joint practices earlier in the week.

DeVito played the first half, going 8 of 15 for 151 yards while also running for 44 yards. Larison had a 2-yard TD run. Eagles backup quarterback Andy Dalton went 3 of 10 for 44 yards in three series of work. He connected on passes of 25 and 13 yards to Darius Cooper that led to a 1-yard TD run by Will Shipley. McKee also had a 14-yard TD pass to Britain Covey.

Christian Gonzalez

As expected, Patriots star cornerback Christian Gonzalez was not in uniform as he recovers from a minor injury amid ongoing contract negotiations.
