It was a historic win for the Indiana Fever on Wednesday, but not without its costs. The Fever broke a franchise scoring record in a 123-88 blowout win over the Connecticut Sun, topping a previous high of 114 points set in an overtime win against the Chicago Sky on June 11. They also tied a WNBA record with their 11th 100-point game of the season.

That total was four points shy of the WNBA single-game record and two points short of the regulation record. Caitlin Clark was the conductor for much of that success, finishing the game with 27 points on 8-of-13 shooting and 11 assists in 27 minutes.

However, Clark also picked up her seventh technical foul of the season. If she picks up one more tech this season, with 17 games left to play, she will face an automatic one-game suspension. She and rival Angel Reese are tied for the WNBA lead in techs at seven.

Clark picked up the technical foul as part of a double tech alongside Connecticut’s Saniya Rivers. The two exchanged words after Clark picked up a foul on a drive, with the Fever star appearing to point to a scoreboard that read 95-67 Indiana. Clark did not play in the fourth quarter. The tech could be rescinded by the WNBA if it decides it wasn’t warranted.

She said she was locking me up, so I said, 'Scoreboard,' and the ref didn't like that, Clark said after the game before admitting she needed to find a way to balance out her competitive fire, via The Athletic’s James Boyd. When asked if a suspension is inevitable, Clark replied, I can't predict the future, you've got to ask the magic 8-ball.

Clark’s All-Star teammates Kelsey Mitchell (23 points) and Aliyah Boston (22 points) also scored in bunches. As a team, the Fever shot 61.6% from the field and 50% from 3-point range, while also outrebounding the Sun 47-35.

All of that is part of a league-wide boom in offense. The WNBA has already seen more than double the number of 100-point games than it did in 2025, and the Fever are on pace to break the season scoring record with 95.5 points per game.

Caitlin Clark picked up her seventh technical foul of the 2026 season as the Indiana Fever secured a lopsided 123-88 win over the Connecticut Sun on Wednesday. After Clark was fouled in the third quarter of the game, she exchanged words with Sun guard Saniya Rivers and gestured towards the scoreboard before both players received technical fouls (5:15 mark).

If Clark is assessed an eighth technical this season, she’ll face a one-game suspension. The three-time All-Star finished with a game-high 27 points and 11 assists in the win, shooting 8-of-13 from the field and 5-of-9 from behind the arc. She also recorded two rebounds, one steal and one block.

Clark and the Fever were unstoppable offensively, taking a 36-26 lead at the end of the first quarter and holding a 70-46 edge at halftime. They led by as many as 36 points, cruising to the win. Indiana scored at least 26 points in all four quarters, ending the game with a franchise-record 123 points.

As for Clark, her seven technical fouls are tied with Atlanta Dream forward Angel Reese for the most in the WNBA this year. While injuries limited Clark to just 13 appearances in 2025, she ranked No. 6 in the league with six technicals during her rookie season in 2024. Still, the former Iowa standout has continued to perform at a high level.

Clark averaged 20.7 points, 7.8 assists and 3.9 rebounds per game while shooting 42.8 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from three-point territory in 22 appearances heading into Wednesday’s action.

Well, after she earned her seventh tech of the season on Wednesday night in a blowout home win over the Connecticut Sun, Clark only has one foul to give before the automatic suspension sets in.

The WNBA allows players to receive up to eight technical fouls before additional penalty. Since Clark has seven, she is one technical foul away from missing a game in the regular season. As long as Clark doesn’t get another tech, she won’t be suspended… but that’s not likely at this pace.

Clark is probably going to get another technical foul and sit a game; it’s just a matter of when. For the Fever, it might be better for her to go ahead and get it out of the way earlier than later. No need in delaying the inevitable!

Clark is electric, but her intense competitive spirit leaves her in these situations. Another tech, and she’s suspended. That’s the way the ball bounces for Clark; it’s part of what makes her such a fun watch. When do the Fever play again? Next Tuesday in Seattle.
