The 2024 Roots Picnic lineup will be headlined by Lil Wayne, Nas and Philadelphia’s own Jill Scott.
Other acts slated to perform during the two-day festival this summer include Victoria Monét, Gunna, Wale, and a special performance by André 3000. The Roots Picnic will be held June 1-2 at the Mann Center for the Performing Arts.
The Roots Picnic lineup was announced Monday morning with tickets set to go on sale to the public at 10 a.m. Friday.
Curated by Philadelphia hip-hop group The Roots, the annual festival is now in its 16th year, including a two-year hiatus from live performances during the Covid-19 pandemic. It debuted in 2008 and was initially held at Festival Pier before relocating to the Mann.
Lil Wayne, a five-time Grammy winner, will perform with The Roots in a celebration of New Orleans that will also include Trombone Shorty and PJ Morton. Other special collaborations set to take the stage this year are Adam Blackstone’s Legacy Experience with Fantasia and Muni Long, as well as Backyard Band with Scarface and Amerie.
Black Thought of The Roots will once again lead a live mixtape performance, this time with Method Man and Redman.
André 3000, formerly one half of the hip-hop duo Outkast, will perform music from his new album “New Blue Sun” after reemerging as a flutist.
Last year’s Roots Picnic was headlined by Ms. Lauryn Hill and Usher, who was a late replacement after original co-headliner Diddy dropped out. Mary J. Blige headlined the festival in 2022.
