On the early morning of Sunday, a 2019 McLaren crashed into a tree and caught fire in Irvine, California, killing two people. The vehicle, which had stopped at a red light, accelerated 高速で when the light turned green, lost control, struck a curb and a tree, and split in two before igniting. One of the victims was identified as 27-year-old James Wehr, co-founder of the South OC Cars and Coffee car show in San Clemente, according to a social media post.

Collision Details at Culver Drive and Deerfield Avenue

Los Angeles Times noted the time as 12:20 a.m. Officers and the Orange County Fire Authority responded to reports of a collision and fire at the location. The 2019 McLaren, which had been stopped northbound on Culver Drive at Deerfield Avenue, accelerated 高速で when the traffic light turned green, according to police. The driver lost control, veered right, struck a curb, and collided with a tree, causing the vehicle to split in two and catch fire.

Police spokesman Kyle Oldoerp described the incident, stating that the car traveled northbound 高速で after the light turned green. Firefighters extinguished the flames and discovered two individuals who had died inside the vehicle. The identities of the victims remained undisclosed as of the latest reports.

A post from the Instagram page South OC Cars and Coffee identified one of the deceased as James Wehr, 27, who co-founded the weekly car show in San Clemente. The event often attracts thousands of performance cars and muscle cars, according to its website. The post stated that today just after midnight, they lost their beloved son and brother James in a motor accident, and they respectfully ask for privacy as a family while they process this profound loss.

Authorities have not released additional details about the second victim. The Irvine Police Department did not identify either victim.

Ongoing Investigation and Public Appeal for Information

The crash remains under investigation by the Irvine Police Department. A preliminary report indicates the vehicle was operating at a high rate of speed before losing control.

Authorities have urged anyone with information regarding the crash to call the Irvine Police Department at 949-724-7047.

The Orange County Fire Authority and police responded to the area of Culver Drive and Deerfield Avenue at about 12:18 a.m. on reports of a collision and fire, while sources also noted around 12:20 a.m.
